About Patricia Shanks

"Back then I had no clue there was such a thing as talking for a living."

then

That's what I said a couple of years ago upon hearing the recorded evidence of one of my very first live-announce appearances. (See the link, below.) It was 1969, and I was the head "stewardess" for the junior high school spring band and chorus performance. A tall, poised pre-teen, to many of the audience members I came off as a ringer from LAX. Reflecting back on those days, some of my favorite times involved reciting just about anything and reading foreign language dialogues aloud in class. What a ham.

As the years passed, forays into professional classical singing, writing and, ultimately, non-profit arts management eventually deposited me in Ventura County, CA. While living there, I found my way to the local NPR affiliate radio station where I became fast friends with pot nobs, DAT machines (I was probably their only friend), the emergency alert system and the graveyard shift. Along the way, there were plenty of opportunities to work out my VO chops.

Cassette tapes of air checks and commercial spots and several passes at a first demo later, I lucked into voicing commercials and, eventually, writing, hosting and producing a weekly arts & entertainment news show segment on local cable.

Now

And I'm still talking non-stop.

Since 1995 I've been extremely fortunate to have voiced countless radio and TV spots, documentaries, a little ADR, telephone and answering system messages, infomercials, in-store and trade show demonstrations, IVR, eLearning, training and sales modules and a range of other types of programs. My clients are non-profit and for profit entities of all shapes and sizes.

In addition to all of my voice work, my added value and great honor is that I am an Emmy® Award-winning writer with commercial and corporate scripting credits.

I am SAG-AFTRA and AGMA, and I am on the board of directors of the Media Alliance of Orange County (MAOC).

I look forward to hearing from you and maybe even talking for you.
